Dikanka
4a Malishko Street
Hours: noon till the last client
Cuisine: Ukranian
Unique Ukrainian restaurant on the left bank of the Dnipro River. The interior has a fun, rustic look. The walls look like those of a Ukrainian hut. There are life-sized wax statues of the heroes of Nikolay Gogol's tales. (He was a Ukrainian and Russian writer of the 19th Century.)
The cooks use tried-and-true old recipes to cook the dishes. One savory dish is goose surrounded by apples. Another is duck in a strawberry sauce.
You will be intrigued by the delicacies that fall under the heading "rulka," or "land and sea".
There is a rich choice of fish, with one of the specialties being rolled beluga filled with soodak.
In the afternoon, customers will find the famed dish shashlik, or barbecue of sturgeon.
In the evening, live music makes the delicious food go down even easier.
